Selecting and processing cinnamon varieties

The first important step when planting cinnamon is to choose healthy varieties and treat them well to help the plant grow strongly, bloom on time, and have few pests and diseases.

Breed selection criteria :

  • Choose seeds from reputable nurseries
  • The tree trunk is thick, straight, not crushed, not broken, and free of pests and diseases.
  • Priority is given to separating from the mother plant because of its quick adaptability and ease of planting.

  • Cut off dry, damaged roots and remove rotten leaves.

Technique of grafting cinnamon orchid onto wood/driftwood:

  • Place the seedling on a wooden board, with the leaves facing out to catch the sun, and the roots hugging the growing medium.
  • Use zip ties or wire to secure the base to the wood/driftwood, do not tighten as this may damage the stem.
  • If the climate is hot and dry, you should cover the base with a layer of moss or coconut husk to keep the tree moist.
  • Hang in a cool place, only spray lightly for the first 3 - 4 days.

  • Place a layer of rocks or gravel at the bottom of the pot to increase drainage.
  • Add charcoal and pine bark to ⅔ of the pot, do not compact.
  • Place the seedling in the middle of the pot, using pins or stakes to secure the base.
  • Cover the base with a thin layer of moss to retain moisture.
  • Place the pot in a cool place, only water lightly for the first week, after 1 week when the plant has new roots, then start watering as usual.

Watering properly :

  • Dry season : Water 1 - 2 times/day
  • Rainy season : Only water when the substrate is dry to avoid waterlogging the roots.
  • Note : Water early in the morning, use a spray bottle to lightly mist the base and roots, do not water strongly because it can easily damage the roots.

Fertilizer :

  • Development stage: NPK 30-10-10, diluted organic fertilizer, combined with B1 + Atonik to stimulate roots, spray alternately.
  • Flowering preparation stage: NPK 10-30-10 to stimulate orchid buds
  • Post-flowering stage: Add B1 and organic microbial fertilizer to help the plant recover after a flowering season.

  • Root rot: Cut off damaged parts, apply lime, scar healing medicine, spray Physan to prevent fungus.
  • Leaf spots, burns: Spray Ridomil Gol, Mancozeb
  • Infested with bud and flower worms: Spray Sherpa, Biopest, catch worms by hand if worms appear.
